Nestled on the Leicestershire and Derbyshire border in the heart of the National Forest and short drive from the historic town of Ashby De La Zouch is the Swainswood Leisure Park and Spa. We had the pleasure a spending two weeks in one their two bedroom Woodland Executive Lodges. Accommodation onsite is made up of two and three bedroom lodges.

Arriving to Swainswood Leisure Park and Spa
We booked our stay through the Hoseasons website. It was a very straight forward process and the staff at Hoseasons were very helpful. On arrival at the park we called the number provided and the site manager checked us in quickly and showed us to our two bedroom lodge. We were given a site access code to gain entry through the gates. Parking was available right next to our lodge. On entry we were very impressed with the standard of accommodation. The interior of the lodge was wood cladded giving a very natural cosy feel. Most of the lodges have private hot tubs that are ready to use the minute you check in.
Woodland Executive Lodge
The main living area was open plan with a full size equipped kitchen. Large dining table with space for four people. The living room was lovely and modern with two leather sofas, coffee table and large flat screen television. There was also a cosy fireplace. Large double doors led out to the decking area which is where the hot tub is located.
We are thrilled to find a full size family bathroom with a bath, shower and lovely fluffy towels and toiletries.
The main bedroom was quite small but perfectly formed. There was a super comfortable queen bed, two bedside tables, wardrobe and even a small television on the wall. There was an ensuite shower room again with a nice selection of toiletries.
The second bedroom again was quite small but had two single beds, bedside table and wardrobe. We pushed the beds together to make a double for L, he is a very active sleeper so tends to need a big bed space.
All linen and towels are provided. The bedding was great quality and super soft and comfortable. More towels were readily available from reception. Handy when your making full use of the hot tub.
There was a full guide available on how to operate the hot tub. The water is left in for the duration of your stay and changed for the next visitors.
Onsite you will also find a spa that provides a range of spa packages and treatments. You need to book your sessions in advance. Unfortunately we didn’t get to sample of the treatments but I definitely want to next time.
The park itself is quite small and private which makes it great for a quiet getaway. There is easy access to centres such as Ashby de la Zouch and Burton upon Trent and the A42 is around a 10 minute drive awa
Things to do nearby
There is some great National Forest walks and cycle tracks that take you past the nearby reservoir, Conkers nature reserve, the historic Moira Furnace and much more. Our favourite is the Conkers Circuit. You can choose from several different routes. The routes are suitable for most abilities.
As well as beautiful countryside to explore there are many other things to see and do nearby. I have listed just a few below:
- Conkers Discovery Centre
- Moira Furnace
- Rosliston Forestry Centre
- Drayton Manor
- National Brewery Centre
- Ashby Castle (English Heritage)
- Calke Abbey (National Trust)
- Staunton Harold Estate
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Swainswood Leisure Park and Spa. We would certainly recommend it to couples and families. Whilst there are no activities for children onsite there are so many activities nearby we would say that Swainswood is perfect for a family break.
